What Are Mobile Cat Grooming Services?

You see your cat constantly licking its paws, smoothing its fur, and being an all-around little primper. But that doesn’t mean they’re off the hook for professional cat grooming.

Cats do a decent job of cleaning themselves, but they still need the magic touch of a master groomer. Grooming can keep fur tangle-free and clean, remove terrible smells, and keep bad fur days at bay. Here’s what’s included in cat grooming services and why it’s important to choose a cat-only groomer for your favorite felines.

What Is Cat Grooming?

Cat grooming is more than just a weekly ritual; it’s an important part of your cat’s overall healthcare. While many people think of grooming as simply brushing fur, it actually includes everything from cleaning their ears to trimming those ever-growing claws. And let’s be real—when your cat starts purring like an engine during a good brush session, you quickly realize that cat grooming is essentially spa day!

Regular grooming can also unveil hidden health issues. Your groomer is trained to look for lumps or skin irritations that could easily go unnoticed in all those fluffy layers. Plus, a good deep clean keeps shedding in check, which means fewer hairballs and cat hair tumbleweeds rolling around your home.

Cat Grooming Terms You Should Know

Cat grooming professionals have their own lingo when it comes to caring for your cat. Let’s pull back the curtain on a few key terms you should know:

  • Sanitary trim, or sani: A fur trim around the genitals (think Brazilian, but without the wax).
  • Lion cut: A full body shave except the paws, tail pouf, and head.
  • Bolero cut: Similar to a lion cut, except the shave is from the belly down.
  • Comb cut: A fur trim using scissors to remove a few inches of fur.
  • De-shed: Removing excess hair that’s already loose.
  • Mat: A thick tangle of fur that has formed a near-solid piece.
  • Pelt: Several mats of fur that create a thick layer in your cat’s coat.
  • Nail caps: Vinyl nail tips applied to your cat’s claws.

We’re telling you these things so we can speak the same language when you’re choosing cat grooming services. We want our work to meet your expectations, and this means starting on the right paw when specifying how to groom your cat.

What Does Cat Grooming Include?

Kitty Spaw offers multiple mobile cat grooming services for a custom, spa-like experience at home. Based on your cat’s size, breed, fur, and other factors, we may recommend different services to help your cat look and feel purr-fect.

Here’s a closer look at what our mobile cat grooming includes.

Brush and De-Shed

A thorough brushing lets us remove excess fur that would eventually start floating around your home or coating your favorite armchair. Our tools get to the undercoat to remove as much loose fur as possible in the gentlest way.

Nail Trim

Next, we’ll shorten your cat’s claws, leaving them with smooth, rounded tips. Our process keeps the nails from growing into the paw pads, but we also leave enough of the nail to allow your cat to defend itself if they encounter danger outdoors.

If you’ve chosen nail caps for your kitty, we’ll apply those later in the process. We trim the nails now to reduce potential injury to our staff during the bathing process (because most cats aren’t friends with water). It’s one of our many cat grooming secrets we’ve learned through 8 years of experience.

Ear Cleaning

One area your cats cannot clean themselves is the ear (inside and out). Our groomers use gentle, pet-safe cleaners and methods to remove wax and buildup. We also check for signs of mites, discharge, swelling, bald spots, and other anomalies that might affect their health.

Spa Bath (Medicated or Non-Medicated)

A thorough cat bath at the perfect temperature will help to remove additional loose fur while nourishing your cat’s skin and coat. It can also help get rid of bad smells and debris that might be trapped in your cat’s fur and paws.

We can provide a medicated flea bath if you suspect your cat has fleas or a deep conditioning treatment to restore tired-looking fur to its natural glory. All of our shampoos and bathing products have been fully vetted for ingredient quality and safety, specifically for cats.

Fur Trimming

Cleansing your cat’s fur makes it easier to brush and trim. Based on your style preferences, we’ll trim or shave your cat’s fur to get them looking their best.

In addition to creative cuts, we also offer full or partial sanitary trims. This helps your cat keep themselves clean “down there” and reduce the amount of waste and bacteria that get stuck in the fur.

Blow Out

We’ll warm up your kitty with a little blow dryer action, which will quickly bring out their coat’s shine and softness. Drying your cat also prevents new dirt and debris from sticking to the wet fur. We can go back and touch up any areas we may have missed during the first trim.

Clean Up

As part of our cat grooming home service, we take care to leave your home better than we found it. We’ll handle the cleanup, from removing fur from the tub to mopping up water on the floor.
