Which Grooming Service is Right for My Cat?
Feline grooming services can vary widely between cat breed, age, size, indoor vs. outdoor, and other factors. How do you know which grooming services your cat needs?
The best way to figure it out is to know what your options are. Let’s dig deeper into our Kitty Spaw feline grooming services, what’s included, and how to choose the right service for your furry friend.
What’s Included in a Basic Grooming?
Every cat is unique, and our groomers not only understand this but also celebrate it. We love working with our kitty clients and their parents, so we offer a more custom approach to our full grooming services. Here’s a quick breakdown of what a full service might entail.
Full Service with Mat Removal
Mats are small tangles in the fur that will grow over time if they’re not removed. These tangles pull on your cat’s skin and can become quite painful. While important to address, mats can sometimes be brushed or combed out and will not require shaving.
Our full service with mat removal includes a thorough brushing, removal of mats, a bath with two massaging shampoos, ear cleaning, nail trim, and a facial. Prices vary based on the number of mats to be removed and the size of the mats, which may or may not require shaving.
Full Service with Bolero Cut
A bolero cut is a creative cut that shaves your cat from the belly down. The fur from the belly up is left untouched, so your cat looks like it’s wearing a sweater.
As with all of our full feline grooming services, your kitty will also receive a thorough brushing, removal of mats, a bath with two massaging shampoos, ear cleaning, nail trim, and a facial.
Full Service with Lion Cut
Similar to the bolero cut, the lion cut shaves all of the fur except for the paws, tail poof, and head. Your cat will also receive a bath, brushing, ear cleaning, nail trim, and facial.
Full Service with Comb Cut
For those who like their cat’s fur a bit shorter but not shaved, the comb cut offers a good in-between. We’ll trim up the fur to help reduce shedding and the potential for buildup. Your cat will also receive the other basic services, including a facial, nail trim, ear cleaning, massaging bath, and brushing.
Full Service with Pelt Removal
Mats that have lingered too long in your cat’s fur can turn into pelts, which are more painful and more difficult to remove. A pelt forms when mats become bound together in the coat. We can combine our full service with pelt removal, giving your cat a clean canvas.
Bath and Brush vs. Full Service Feline Grooming
Full service grooming cares for your cat from nose to tail. We’re not just focused on fur, but also on nails, ears, and the hard-to-reach places your cat might have neglected in their own grooming routine.
But sometimes, all you want is a bath and brush to keep your kitty looking fresh. We offer this basic service for short-haired and long-haired cats, but rest assured there’s nothing “basic” about it. Your cat will feel pampered and appreciated as they enjoy a mini spa day in a calming environment.
It’s the difference between “just a trim” and a full-blown makeover. Either way, your cat is sure to feel revitalized.
What Additional Feline Grooming Services Do You Offer?
Kitty Spaw offers complete feline grooming care, including a variety of add-on services to customize your cat’s experience. Let’s compare your options.
Nail Caps
Recommended for indoor cats, nail caps are small vinyl nail covers (also known as Soft Paws) that keep claws from poking, scratching, or digging. They help protect furniture, curtains, clothing, skin, and anything your cat might want to sink their claws into. They don’t prevent your cat’s nails from growing, so they’ll last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.
Persian Face Trim
A special service for our Persian kitty clients, this trim will bring out your breed’s unique facial features. It keeps long fur out of their face while creating the perfect shape.
Deep Conditioning
This add-on treatment is recommended for long-haired cats. It restores shine and texture while taming their fluffy coats.
De-Shedding
De-shedding goes beyond basic brushing. Our professional grooming tools target the undercoat to remove stuck fur, leaving your kitty feeling lighter and drama-free.
Sani Trim
Kind of like a Brazilian for your kitty, a sani trim removes fur around the genitals. It’s especially helpful for indoor cats, as litter can often linger in fur. And no one wants loose litter falling onto their furniture, floors, or lap!
Flea Bath
We offer optional flea shampoo to use during your cat’s grooming session. It kills fleas and works in tandem with any flea treatment your vet recommends.
Belly Shave
Belly shaves can make brushing and maintenance easier in between grooming visits. It reduces shedding and matting, which can improve future grooming sessions.
Creative Cuts
Got a fresh look in mind for your kitty? Upgrade your basic grooming to include a creative cut that suits your cat’s personality. Our stylists can also recommend a new ‘do for your cat.
Comparing Feline Grooming Services for Your Cat
Feline grooming services span a wide range, from basic bathing and brushing to complete body care and everything in between. In some cases, you might be able to tell exactly what your cat needs by looking at them (e.g., you notice mats or tangles in the fur). And sometimes, your groomer might suggest additional services once they start grooming your cat.
When in doubt, reach out! Our Certified Feline Master Groomers can recommend the right services based on your cat’s breed, size, and personality. We want each of our cat clients to feel refreshed after their spa day, so we aim to help them make the most of it.
